Make ZIN Great Again

In the glass the wine reminds me of a purple tootsie pop.  It’s dark purple around the edges and goes black in the center.  The nose shows an explosion of perfume and cranberry.  Dammit if this thing doesn’t smell like a classic Paso Zin… It doesn’t smell hot, it doesn’t smell like a jam-bomb, it just smells delicious!

Before I take my first sip – I’d be lying to you if I told you my hopes weren’t high.  I almost find myself sand bagging a bit.  I’m thinking to myself, please let this wine taste as good as it smells… Please don’t let this wine be a fruit forward jam bomb…. Please don’t let the 15% abv burn my throat….

Then it happens, I tip my glass ANNNNNND – cranberry up front leads to raspberry and sweet strawberry.  Mid palate I get a sort of herbaceous cola note and the finish shows no tannin but more of a sort of velvety texture on the tongue.  The finish is more lingerig fruit, no sign of alcohol anywhere!  This thing is BALANCED and I’m in love.  This is what it is all about folks.  I’ve had so many BS high octane Zin-Jam-Bombs recently and this is not one.  Can everyone please take a note from this wine make Zinfandel Great Again?  Please!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Peachy Canyon Winery is a family affair.  Founded in the late 80’s by Doug and Nancy Becket, the winery has helped pave the way for Paso Robles wine country as they take pride in crafting some of the most ridiculous Zins on the central coast.  The Becket’s two sons, Jake and Josh; have been a part of Peachy Canyon since the beginning and continue to play vital roles in the success of the business.  It is safe to say that the entire Beckett clan should take a bow for being such incredible advocates to Paso Robles wine country for nearly 30 years (and for making such kick-ass Zin).
