El Dorado County is an AVA that sits in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The vineyards there sit anywhere from 2,000 to 3,500 feet above sea level. This elevation creates a pretty sweet setup for growing grapes as the cool air that comes off of the mountain sweeps through the vineyards and pushes the hot air off the vines and down into the valley. For a bit of geographic perspective, if you head east from Sacramento for about an hour ten, you’ll run straight into El Dorado….
in the glass, this Rhone blend shows a super light golden core with thick translucent edges….
My first sniff is all Green apple… when I give the wine another smell there is an onslaught pineapple and just a touch of lemon zest…
In the mouth there are loads of cantaloupe and honeysuckle upfront that lead to a mid palate of nectarine and wet cement. The mouthfeel starts out creamy but it doesn’t take long for some acid to show up…. the ending is bright and zippy with a looooooong lemony finish……
Goodnight is this thing delicious!
