Wichita wine

Jennifer McDonald founded Jenny Dawn Cellars just a couple of years ago. Taking Wichita Kansas by storm, Jennifer recently created the city’s first urban winery. What sets Jenny Dawn Cellars apart from other Midwest wineries are the working relationships that Jennifer has created with winemakers and growers in California. Her inaugural Pinot Noir is a representation of this as she sourced the wine’s fruit from Santa Barbara, had it made in Napa, and sells it out of her Wichita tasting room…

In the glass, this Pinot shows a light ruby core with thin translucent edges…

When I give the wine a sniff – there are carnation flower, plum, and bing cherry notes that I’m digging ———> The nose has a pure elegance that keeps me coming back for more….

On the palate, this lil Pinot is definitely on the lighter and brighter side of the spectrum. The wine starts out with a touch of raspberry and orange zest before entering into a mid-palate of cherry cola and cranberry…… The finish is medium length with more of that bing cherry note that I got on the nose with mild acid and no tannin….

Guys, even though this project is brand new – Jenny Dawn Cellars is really onto something here! While the idea of sourcing grapes is nothing new, the fact that Jennifer is doing it from the Midwest makes her a bit of a pioneer. This is a solid Pinot and now I’m giddy to try her other offerings…..
