Yorkville Cellars sits in the Yorkville Highlands AVA of CA. Deborah and Edward Wallo purchased the property in ’88 and released the vineyard’s first estate wines in ’94… One of the many things that make these vineyards so interesting is the fact that they have been Certified Organic since ’86 ———> For those of you following along at home, this makes them one of the O.G.’s of the Organic Cali game!!!
In the glass, this Cab Sauv driven blend has a dark purple center with garnet edges and an electric halo…
When I get my nose in the glass ——-> I’m hit with raspberry, blueberry, and cedar notes… Another sniff brings out a really cool spicy coriander thing….
My first taste is loaded with a bing cherry tartness and orange peel. The mid-palate is blackberries and cranberry sauce with a woody note of the cedar box that I got on the nose ———> The finish is mid-length and chewy with dark chocolate and anise…
Damn guys…. I’m LOVING the wines that are coming out of the Yorkville Highlands and Richard the Lion-Heart is NO EXCEPTION!!! While the wine is 50% Cab, there’re 5 other varieties working together in this blend making quite the team… This wine is drinking well now but will only get better with up to a decade of age!
